Boat Storage

What's the best Boat Storage for your boat? Don't
have a homeless Boat!

Your Boat needs a home! Yachting-n-Boating.com is your Boat Home Guide! We'll guide you in choosing the right storage location and facility for your new Boat! Speaking from experience, this is one of the most overlooked pre-buying piece to the Boat Ownership puzzle. Let's review several Boat Storage options:

Trailer:
This is by far the most common and the most inexpensive of all the Boat Storage options. Trailers can be parked at home in the garage (if it fits), driveway or in the backyard. Because of its mobility, in and out of the Water is quick and simple plus they allow you to explore new bodies of Water around your home. Before buying a Boat on a Trailer check on two things. First is your Truck or SUV capable of handling the weight of the vessel and do you have a tow package set-up on the rear of the vehicle? And second, do you live in a community or a homeowners association that allows Boats parked on the street or in your driveway or in the yard? Speaking from experience, code enforcement and homeowners association's frown upon Boats on

Trailers in their neighborhoods (in visible site). Check this out before you bring the Boat home (homeless Boat is sad).

Dry Rack Storage:
Dry Rack Storage is generally for the smaller Boats (approximately up to 30' feet). This is a great alternative to Trailering because Dry Rack Storage location is on the Water and in/out service with a forklift is part of the monthly fee. Monthly fees are based on the LOA (length of your Boat) - These fees can range from $6 per foot to $18 per foot. Another advantage to this type of Boat Storage is that you just have to call ahead and they will place the Boat in the Water waiting for your arrival and when you return simply tie the Boat to the dock and walk away, they'll place it back into the Rack. When searching for Dry Rack Storage Facility find one that can storage your Boat inside. This may cost a little more but its worth it.

Wet Storage:
Wet Storage has a lot of the same characteristics as Dry Storage just your Boat is stored in the Water (I know, we're just testing you). This type of Boat Storage is generally for large vessels but really all vessels can be stored this way. Monthly fees are based on the LOA (length of your Boat). These fees can range from $8 per foot to $35 per foot plus utilities if used. The advantage over Dry Storage is no calling ahead needed, just go to the Marina and walk the docks to your vessel, jump in and go! When searching for Rack Storage or a Marina for Wet Storage find one that has a convenient store and/or gas station, pumping station (to empty your waste water) and if your lucky a marine and/or fishing supplies on site. This will save you time and get you out on the Water faster!

Yacht Storage:
These large vessel are most definitely stored in the Water at plush Waterfront Marina's with facilities that revel a 5-star Resort. Yachts have lots of needs and facilities of today meet those needs with custom dock space that include power and water hook-ups, dock locker for extra storage for supplies, use of a golf cart, mechanic on-site, laundry and dry cleaning, restaurants, shops, hotels and more. When you get to this level in Yachting the only thing left to do is live-aboard! Check with the Marina before making that decision to see if this is allowed and if it is imagine having your own Waterfront home with a view of the Water from every window! (we like this!) Monthly fees are based on the LOA (length of your Yacht) - These fees can range from $15 per foot to $65 per foot plus utilities.

Buy your Own Storage Spot - Dockominium?!:
Don't want to pay rent any more? Good for you, buy your spot at the Marina! Many locations today are shifting from renting slips and rack space to selling them; this is a perfect solution to the avid Boater who wants to invest in a permanent home for their Boat or Yacht and at the same time build equity in a asset versus renting as a liability. Dockominium?! What is that? It's just as it sounds, a condo for your Boat or Yacht. This is a vision (for some) of the future of big Boat Storage (cause we are running out of Waterfront space!). Many of these Dockominium's are in the process of development with many in operation today. These state-of-the-art facilities are located in large metropolitan, Waterfront city's (such as New York, Miami, Fort Lauderdale) that cater to the affluent few that can afford such luxury. Make you dream come alive and invest in a Dockominium!

Avoid the Homeless Boat:
Before buying the Boat of your dreams remember that this dream is becoming a reality so where you storage the Boat can really make a difference in the life of the Boat. Happy days on the Water starts with a happy Boat stored in a clean, safe, secure location that can prolong it's Boating Life! So before you cut the check and make the commitment secure a Boat Storage spot that fits your budget and where the Boat will be happy!
